John Millard

PROFILE
I bring the perspective and experience of a seasoned professional who has effected innovative change in Libraries for over thirty years in a variety of roles. I've had an opportunity to be a digital librarian, an instructor, a researcher, a grant writer, a manager and a leader. In each role, I have looked beyond the specifics and limitations of the position toward the larger picture of how my work made the organization better, more effective, and ultimately indispensable for our students and faculty. More importantly, I have the desire and ability to forge partnerships between internal and external stakeholders to accomplish greater results than can be accomplished separately.

EXPERIENCE

Associate Dean of Libraries, May 2015-Present 
Miami University Libraries, Oxford OH

  • Provide senior leadership to a division consisting of Advise & Instruct, Learning and Engagement and Access & Borrow departments supporting learning, research, Information Access and creative innovation.
  • Successfully advocated for a new Learning and Engagement department which merged our existing learning and engagement and Makerspace operations and focused on instruction, student success, emerging and disruptive technologies, information literacy, and experiential education


Head, Center for Digital Scholarship, June 2011-May 2015

  • Developed business and facilities plans, coordinated renovation project, and successfully launched the Center for Digital Scholarship.
  • Led department of 3 Librarians and staff members, mentored 2 librarians towards successful promotion and continuing contract applications.
  • Provided project management, leadership and coordination of three librarians and staff, foster collaborations, contribute technical expertise, and provide liaison and outreach to stakeholders both within and outside the libraries.

  • Led transition of digital initiatives from Technical Services unit to independent department
  • Managed production of over 20 digital collections representing 80,000 unique digital objects
  • Recommended and implemented acquisition of Scholarly Commons Institutional Repository, and ContentDM.
